Delivery Driver

The delivery driver position is a part-time, year-round position. Tasks include loading orders, delivering produce to local restaurants and CSA pickup locations, driving safely, working efficiently, and being courteous to our customers. This job requires an industrious and trustworthy person who can stay focused and alert. Driving and customer service experience are a big plus. This is a job for a responsible, independent person who likes to be on the road and isn't afraid of driving a box truck/delivery van in city traffic. 

Reports to: 

Farm Owners, Farm Manager

Hours/Schedule: Part Time

June – November: Tuesdays and Fridays 6am -4:30pm ,restaurants; Wednesdays 7:30am-4:30pm CSA deliveries. 

December through April: Thursdays 8am - 4:30pm, CSA deliveries;  Fridays 6am-4:30pm restaurants. 

Please note that hours may vary week-to-week due to volume of orders and weather. Generally, summer hours will average 25-30 hours per week and winter hours will average 10-15 hours per week. Additional on-farm hours may be available for interested candidates

Position Period: Flexible start and end date, must be able to start by May 15th and work through November 30th.

Compensation:

  • $18-$19 starting hourly pay DOE

  • Up to 2% match of gross income as SIMPLE IRA contribution

  • 30 hours paid time off 

  • Sick pay accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours 

  • Gear and wellness stipend of $500 

  • Annual bonus based on hours worked

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Safely loading, unloading, and driving a large box truck comfortably and with confidence.

  • Sorting, organizing, checking, and loading orders for delivery.

  • Delivering orders accurately following an assigned route schedule.

  • Delivering CSA shares to designated pickup locations following all CSA delivery practices and procedures.

  • Handling a variety of produce throughout the season.

  • Completing required documentation, receipts from pickups for farm supplies, collecting payments for invoices for produce delivered. 

  • Maintaining excellent relationships with customers.

  • Answering customer questions about produce and services or referring customers to appropriate staff as needed. 

  • Keeping vehicles clean including unloading vehicles at the end of the workday and reporting any mechanical issues immediately.

  • Providing constant communication regarding all issues that arise throughout the day to their direct supervisors.

  • Communicating any quality or order discrepancies to appropriate farm owners as needed. 

  • Completing pre-trip truck inspections and reporting any mechanical problems to supervisor.

General Requirements for all Positions:

  • Have dependable transportation and the ability to get to work on time.

  • Have a working cell phone for communications.

  • Be able to follow instructions and pay attention to details.

  • Be able to commit to staying the duration of the season.

  • Be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly. 

  • Be able to perform manual weather in all weather conditions (rain, heat, snow etc.)

  • Be able to keep a positive attitude, even amid challenges.

  • Respect for all staff and appreciate their work and contributions.

  • Self-motivation to do a quality job in an efficient way.

  • Keep track of speed of work and strive for efficiency.

  • Work well with others and have experience working as part of a team.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Current driver’s license

  • Clean driving record

  • GPS enabled smartphone

  • Experience driving large delivery type vehicles

  • Customer service experience…you need to like other people!

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • An interest in local food or farming

  • A desire to create positive, meaningful relationships with coworkers and customers

  • Ability to work with minimal direction/supervision at a quick pace and with high standards

  • Reliable, punctual, organized, maintains a high regard for safety

  • Can follow instructions carefully and accurately, and asks questions 

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Maintain foresight and ability to spot potential problems before they arise
